I have an old PC Im thinking of using as a dedicated Squeezebox server. It is a 9 year old Pentium 4 machine with 2.5 gigs of RAM, but the hard drive is small (75 gigs I think). The operating system is Windows XP.
I want to convert it to VortexBox but I have a couple of questions.
First off this machine was retired because of a viscous piece of malware which made it unusable. I dont remember the name of the malware but I did research it when this happened and found it was down into the root DOS files. At the time of the infection (about a year ago) I contacted a couple of local computer repair shops who wanted around $200 (USD) to fix the problem. I didnt want to spend $200 on an 8 year old computer so I set it aside.
Now as I understand it, installing the VotexBox software reformats the existing hard drive wiping out the original operating system. Am I correct in thinking this process would kill the malware?
Would I be able to locate the main music folder on a USB attached external hard drive?
