Where / how to install mpg123 on high sierra

Apologies for this very basic question....

I'm a long-time (since slimp3 days) non-techie user. I've recently updated LMS and am using the superb squeezelite / localplayer option. I understand that I need to install mpg123 in order to play mp3 tracks but I can't - despite much searching - work out how to...

I think that I maybe need some additional mac software to install it such as brew...?
I followed the instructions on macappstore mpg123
I've downloaded mpg123-1.25.13 from [mpg123 dot de
I then ran the code in terminal but it returned bash:command not found

I don't really understand where I need to install mpg123..

I also tried from the LMS advanced settings for localplayer where it says:
To support mp3 playback you should install the mpg123 codec for osx. This can be installed from the rudix project (direct links: Snow Leopard, Lion/Mountain Lion).
But the direct links come up broken and on the rudix page I can't see an mpg123 file...

Once again apologies for the very basic question but I'd appreciate any pointers / help.

Kind regards,
Beau
