Winamp has developed distorted playback

I am running Winamp 5.601 and use it as a player on my Windows 7 PC. Recently playback has become distorted, filled with static. Has anyone else had this issue or know of a way to resolve it ? The files will play back clearly using Foobar or Windows media Player. Files are FLAC.
