Need help trouble shooting a line out audio problem [More details inside]

Hello,

Background information

I am currently using Logitech Media Server and Raspberry Pi to stream music around my house.

The music is on a server running Open Media Vault, the server runs Logitech Media Server.

The Raspberry Pi computer is the client and runs Max2Play, it plugs in to some speakers via the line out port.

Looking at the Logitech Media Server interface I can see the music is playing but I am not getting any sound through my speakers.

Can you help me trouble shoot this issue?

I am not sure if I should be adjusting a setting on the Logitech Media Server software or on the Max2Play software.

Perhaps the software isn't the issue and it's something else?

Any advice or feedback is welcome.

Thanks in advance :)

JiveLite with screensavers (DPMS Issue)

I would like to run JiveLite in an LXDE (OpenBox) instance on a Pi3 (Linux raspberrypi 4.9.35-v7+ #1014 SMP Fri Jun 30 armv71)
As Per the instructions over at the source forge page for squeezeplay, it appears that it is possible to enable the XScreensaver with a switch in the startup script.
Quote:

If you want your screensaver to start, uncomment export SDL_VIDEO_ALLOW_SCREENSAVER=1 in the script.
Is there a similar setting that can be used with JiveLite? I prefer to use JiveLite as the Pi won't always be running X and jivelite plays nice with squeezelite. I've noticed that JiveLite sends a signal that wakes the monitor from DPMS off state when it is running.

Alternatively, is it possible to use Squeezeplay with Squeezelite? That would also be a great solution.

Thanks for your help!

3 squeezelite players on one pi?

Hi all,

I'm just wondering if anyone has successfully run three instances of squeezelite on a single Pi?

I currently have 2 instances running fine.

I remember testing 3 a while back and it failed totally, but tempted to try it again as it was probably user error last time. But before i do I thought I'd ask if anyone has it working successfully?

Thanks!

I have noticed that there are a number of very interesting music archives out there and wondered whether there was any way of accessing these through LMS in the same was a the BBC iplayer extra. Some of these collections are really good . With recordings coming out of copyright all the time there will be an increasing amount of this material available over the next few years.

BBC iPlayer - Non-UK - No Listen Again

I'm on LMS 7.9.1 on a ReadyNAS 314 with the BBC iPlayer Add-on 1.3.1 alpha 3.

The BBC iPlayer add-on description says that:

"Users outside the UK are now able to receive restricted bitrate versions of all the content available to UK users. This includes listen again recordings of the last 7 days..."

I can get the non-UK live stations to play OK, but I cannot get the listen again streams to work.
Is there another setting required for this?

MusicIP Headless not running in Fedora 26 Linux - script/systemd issues

Has anyone had any success running MusicIP headless in Fedora 26? After doing a clean install of Fedora, I'm unable to get the scripts to run. I have tried running the scripts from /etc/init.d as is, attempted to modify them to work, tried to convert the scripts to pure systemd scripts that don't call the original scripts, and converting them to systemd scripts, but without success.

I am by no means an expert in Linux, but have had a functioning LMS server on Fedora 4 through 14 with MusicIP for 12 years. Most of the errors have been "file not found" in referencing the original scrip in many locations in many variations, but I've been able to get through these. Much tougher has been the problem where the unit loads and deactivated it self right away. I have tried service types of simple, forking and one shot. The only way I can get it to run is on the command line, changing to the /MusicMagicMixer directory, and running ./MusicMagicServer start/stop.

When working with systemd to run the scripts in /etc/init.d, my process looks something like this:

sudo systemctl disable /etc/systemd/system/mmserver.service
sudo nano /etc/init.d/mmserver
sudo systemctl enable /etc/systemd/system/mmserver.service
sudo systemctl daemon-reload

At this point, either:
reboot
Or:
sudo systemctl start mmserver.service

I use a similar approach when the systemd script calls the init.d script

After many days of working with this, I'm at an impass. Anyone had any success with this, or have any suggestions?
Thanks!

Audible watermarking in Tidal

Hi,

I should point out that this is not a Tidal problem as such. The problem lies in the source "HiRez" material as provided by Universal Music Group.

As a subscriber to Tidal and a classical listener I was disappointed to read this article and could clearly hear the difference in the examples.

I though this might be a good place to discuss what possiblities exist for some kind of filtering within LMS or squeezelite (or perhaps this could even be done in sox)?

What are your views?

running MusicIP on MacOS

I've just received a MacBook and was curious about running Squeezebox and specifically MusicIP under MacOS (after running these on Windows 7 and Windows 10 without any problems). I was able to get SB going fairly quickly on the MacBook but I am having a very difficult time with MusicIP. I have the service running fine and added songs to the library. However, I cannot get MIP to analyze any of the tracks. It keeps saying it cannot connect to the server. I know that a few years ago the servers were shutdown, but I am still able to get the analysis working either thru the GUI or the Web option. On the Mac, I keep getting the error on the GUI. I even tried using the GenPUID program, but still got bad connection error.
Has anyone been able to get this going on their MacOS environment? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Spicefly Fingerprint Metadata Extractor (MusicIP can it be reborn?)

$

Hi All,

Announcing a little experiment, to see whether it's possible to resurrect MusicIP.. if your tracks are already MusicIP fingerprinted please read further and hoping you will help out :)

The Issue
MusicIP is a great piece of software but if you haven't scanned your music files its a long process to start from scratch.

The Theory
Is it possible to use other fingerprinting software to cross reference and build a new MusicIP metadata library from tracks already fingerprinted by MusicIP. If it's possible to build up 100k of the most common tracks then that would go a big way to solving the issue and the user then might only have to scan a few hundred tracks.

What is Spicefly Fingerprint Metadata Extractor?
SFME is a proof of concept software. Using AcoustID's Chromaprint open source audio identification fingerprinting software and then by running this against tracks that already have MusicIP fingerprints it copies the metadata and uploads it to the source server. The plan is to use crowd sourcing to build a much larger data model and study the metadata and see if there is any cross reference.

How you can Help
SFME is something I've been wanting to try out for a long time, so I learnt Visual C# over the last 12 months and bring you Version 0.1. If your tracks already contain MusicIP fingerprints, please download and run SFME on your tracks to aid the research effort.

how to stream music from NAS to Libratone ZIPP speakers (possibly via iPeng)?

$

Hi,

I am currently using a SYNOLOGY NAS with LMS installed on a MAGNA HIFI/MANO player, streaming files (mainly under FLAC format) to an AUDIO GD/DAC 19. I am using the iPENG application as monitoring application. I am also using as an altenative source QUOBUZ streaming services (or other such as SPOTIFY or DEEZER) or event music that is stroed on my iPhone.

My Hifi is connected to a REGA MIRA amplifyer connected to KLIPSCH speaker, in my living room. I am also using 2 LIBTRATONE (one ZIPP and one ZIPP mini) as a multiroom system.

I would like to know if (and how) it is possible to make my system evolve to do the following :

1) I cannot stream on the LIBRATONE speakers the music that is stored on the NAS via iPENG (mostly FLAC files). Is there a possibility to configure an alternative player/source on iPENG/LMS to enable this? would the FLAC format not be compatible with LIBRATONE speakers ? Does the fact that LMS is installed ont the MANO play a role?

2) I cannot stream the music on the hifi (MANO streamer/DAC/Ampli/speakers) and the LIBRATONE speakers at the same time (from iPENG or any other application, such as Quobuz or even the Apple Player (Musiques)) : is there any way to do so? Would the forthcoming AIRPLAY2 protocole coming soon with the next iOS offer a solution?

I thank you very much in advance for your assistance.

PS : I am not 100% to have posted this thread in the right chapter. Please advise. Thanks

You basically send a POST request to the /jsonrpc.js endpoint. Grab your
browser, start the developer's console (or javascript console or
whatever it's called in your browser) and monitor what requests the LMS
web UI sends to the server. I think that shows pretty well how it works.

Spotty on ARM based NAS (Synology, QNAP etc.) - testers wanted!

I _hope_ it's correct, as I have the same in the office (but I'm not
there today). But I haven't tested this yet. TBH: I think it is running
a very old glibc which might still make spotty fail... But I'll try to
come up with a build which is not depending on glibc, which might make
it work eventually...

Yes, that's still correct. I think there are instructions in the other
thread as to how to do this on the ReadyNAS. You'll have to use apt-get
to install the module. But it should be feasible. Again: will try
tomorrow when I'm back in my office.

Spotty on ARM based NAS (Synology, QNAP etc.)

Hi there,

This thread is outdated as of today. No longer install the SpottyARMv5Bin plugin. The updated Spotty plugin should be good enough. Thanks for the testing!

(don't read any further unless you're interested in the past :-))

If you've tried to use Spotty on your NAS device but failed due to some incompatibility, here's something for you: Thanks to forum user jr01 and Jörg Krause I've finally been able to compile Spotty for previously un-supported systems based on an ARMv5 (armel) processor. From the feedback I got these are particularly popular in Synology and QNAP NAS systems.

Before I'm integrating them with the main Spotty plugin I'd like it to be tested. In order to do so please install Spotty and the new SpottyARMv5Bin plugins. Then try to configure Spotty from the LMS web UI (Settings/Advanced/Spotty). You might need to enter username/password as discovery mode seems to crash. But that's better than nothing, isn't it? :-)

Please give this a try and let me know about your findings!

(Unfortunately this still won't help if you were running a PowerPC based NAS.)

SrvrPowerCtrl on piCorePlayer

I have always found the gharris SrvrPowerCtrl plugin to be extremely useful. However, it no longer appears as an option on the main plugin screens and my attempts to link to various repositories has not led to success at automatic installation. I have, in the past, managed to install it manually, by painstaking trial and error, on a few LMS installations but my latest attempts to get it on a new piCorePlayer installation on a Raspberry Pi3 have been unsuccessful, often leading to a complete snarl-up of LMS. Fortunately, SAMBA shares now allow a retrieval of the situation by facilitating the deletion offending files.

However, I see that SrvrPowerCtrl now appears as a forked link to the Ralph Irving github repository. Is it possible to summon an automatic install from there? Adding the following:

h**ps://github.com/ralph-irving/SrvrPowerCtrl/blob/master/install.xml

to the LMS plugin repository list gets me nowhere - not too surprisingly!

If anyone can help with this I'd be most grateful. piCorePlayer has developed so well in recent years that it is now the basis of many of my Squeezebox Players, as well as my back-up and Roaming Squeezebox servers. It would really be good to get SrvrPowerCtrl back on to all the servers again.

Many thanks to the pCP team for their excellent work and, in advance, for any help in resolving this.
